GST rate cuts. Banks and NBFCs may see uptick in demand for consumer durable loans, vehicle loans
Mumbai: Banks and non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) may be able to reverse the trend of declining credit growth as the GST (Goods and Services Tax) rate rationalisation is seen fuelling demand for consumer durable goods and vehicles, among others. As part of next generation GST reforms, the GST Council has rationalised the current 4-tiered tax rate structure into a ‘Simple Tax’ - a 2 rate structure with a Standard Rate of 18 per cent and a Merit Rate of 5 per cent; a special de-merit rate of 40 per cent for a select few goods and services.
